BRITTANY GRINER An American pro basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. Born October 18, 1990 in Houston, Texas The daughter of Raymond and Sandra Griner. Her father held the position of Deputy Sheriff of Harris County and served in the marines in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. She has three older siblings. Griner attended Nimitz High School in Houston where she earned varsity letters in basketball all thru high school; as a freshman she played volleyball. In her sophomore year, she practiced with boys basketball team and worked with a Nimitz Football coach to build her leg strength so she could learn to dunk. Griner led the Nimitz cougars to Texas 5A basketball state championship in her senior year. As a senior Brittany dunked 52 times in 32 games and set a record of 7 dunks in a single game.
