Fannie Lewis
Fannie Lewis was born June 6 1926, in Memphis Tennessee. She moved to Cleveland Ohio in 1951, She was the Ward 7 representative for the CLEVELAND CITY COUNCIL for almost thirty years.
Lewis, a Democrat, earned a reputation for her tireless efforts to improve Hough in the wake of the 1966 riots in the neighborhood, including encouraging the constrution of Lexington Village, townhouses on Hough Avenue, Crawford Estates homes, and a number of new, expensive homes in Hough. Lewis was inducted into the Women Hall of Fame in Columbus in 1996. After the riot Lews took a more active role in the community when she became a recuiter for Neighborhood Youth Corps, a project to help people find work. IN 1972, This was also the year that she was named director of the citizens’ component of Model Cities program,whitch to improve neighborhoods. One of the issues that Lewis was passionate about was the rehabilitation of LEAGUE PARK.
