Fisk University
Fisk University is a private historically black university located in Nashville, Tennessee1. It was founded in 1866 and has a 40-acre campus that is a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places1. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in various fields of study12.
The term “junior normal class” was used in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to describe a program that trained African American teachers for elementary schools34. Fisk University was one of the institutions that offered such a program.

Fisk University supporters want the arrival of a new president to usher in a new era for an institution long plagued by financial woes and a struggle to find stable leadership.
In 1930, Fisk was the first African-American institution to gain accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
We are truly blessed to have been introduced to all of the Black people throughout history.
And to be able to write about them.
